Literature Text

My childhood had a lot of snow. For the adults it was very important to have it on Christmas, even though we just sat inside watching the yearly reruns on television. Santa's arrival was much anticipated and never happened early enough. He wasn't too fat considering the amount of candy he was stocked with. I never saw the reindeer they talked about. I thought that if we only had enough snow, the melting would cause a flood that would drown the entire city.

A friend said it's going to be a gingerbread Christmas this year, that's the color the white melts into. I bought chocolate and an umbrella just to be safe. Last week I made peppermint candy. Breathing in the vapors is the fun part. Now I know Santa is at high risk for diabetes. The reindeer is kept under saran wrap, packed under a protective atmosphere like my family should have been. But there's never enough snow.
This was originally supposed to be a narrative poem, but it works much better in prose form. Please don't tell me it's too short, because that's the way it's supposed to be, it's not because I'm lazy. Tiny (somewhat experimental) prose has always been my thing. The structure is supposed to be a bit jerky, of course it's up to you whether you like it and whether you think it works or not. I'd be happy to hear any opinions and critiques. Even if you don't think you have a proper critique, please tell me if it worked for you or not.

The preview image is a stock photo from sxc.hu. I took some snow photos a few weeks ago, but haven't been able to check them yet and I don't have access to them right now. If there's a suitable one I'll probably replace the current preview image with that.
