I drew this for the French IGDRP demoparty which was held last weekend. My first "abstract" ASCII design - heck, my first design that didn't come straight out of a model or a reference picture, this was entirely from my imagination. It was supposed to be fully abstract, but turned out to look like something in particular. There are some things I don't like about it (like the "tree"), but also some parts I really fancy. I guess that with practice I'll get better at doing this kind of designs.
I placed second in the compo, took only a week for the Frenchmen to get the results file on the web, eh. Also, they screwed up and entered my realname instead of my nick in the results, which was extremely lame. I guess I shouldn't complain too much as last year the results of the ASCII compo at IGDRP just plain disappeared. :-P
You've got a very clean style and I guess you started out in the middle of what I see as a rose. I never actually saw anything like an apple, two persons' heads, a snake, a giraffe OR a mecha and I think this would be pretty cool if you just omit the right part and the left corners and leave it as a single rose.... probably with some nicely shaded leaves fading to black behind the bloom.
If you can give me the ascii version I'd be glad to diddle it.
Thanks. It was meant as an abstract piece, there was originally a spiral in place of the rose but it didn't look good, so I just broke it into pieces. I'm not entirely happy with the left side, but I really like the right side myself.
I could perhaps make an ordinary rose picture out of this some day, it's something to consider. I already have a vision of what the leaves could be like.
Just to give you my opinion.. I would fancy some leaves starting at the tip with a solid .o8' pattern and decaying through $MN etc to a .:' pattern and finally darkness just as it would slide beneath the "rose"
Maija, this is beautiful - I love patterns and ornaments and this - but this kind of creations (Text Art > ASCII ) are pretty new for me - text art I've seen ever since the 1st e-mails but the way You've presented Your Art is a new world... Of these I this especially - as one need not really find anything, but discover details... would look good as printed on large surface.
you have used characters to their maximum potential here, as anoter guy said, the full stops and d's and commas work really well to give the picture (of a rose from over here) a really smooth feel. Great work

I dono how you do it, but it looks great.
