I drew this picture on a very short notice, I was asked on Sunday and the piece had to be finished by Tuesday. It was released as a guest picture in the new PEN15 artpack, which makes it my first artpack release ever. ~wikman also has a guest ASCII featured in the pack. It reads "mutsis", which means "your momma" in Finnish. Why? Because I couldn't think of anything else at the time, everything was either too short or too long. It's supposed to be hard to read, even harder than it turned out.

I first drew an entirely different design, but found it too boring it so started a new one from scratch. This is basically just an experiment like all my ASCII logos have been, a new style all the time. I'm just a novice yet but I believe I'm slowly getting the hang of it (just finished another logo, which is _much_ better). There are many parts I'm not happy with, but as a whole I am fairly happy with the way the picture turned out in these conditions.

Drawn with JavE, I tried using the brush tool and my tablet for sketching, but everything is handmade as always.

Also, please see the latest issue of TextCanvas - Textmode Art Spotlight. Like the previous articles this one has received very little attention. :-/

Could you clarify that comment a bit? If you don't like it, would be nice to hear why as I'm just starting out with the whole logo thing.

haha! I have to start saying 'mutsis!'
I've started saying "orrait" which I'm not sure is entirely cool.
this is really cool though, it's hard to imagine it possible to get it to look so 'thick' and round just by using symbols. nice graffiti look as well. :>

whoah that looks excellent, perfect style. has anyone else picked up on the fact that PEN15, the name of the artpack, looks like the word penis. puerile i know, but hey, i had to mention it once i noticed.

Thanks. It is no coincidence that the name "PEN15" sounds rather naughty, it's a prime example of "demoscene humor", making bad puns with dirty words. It's the name of the group, not the name of the artpack though. The artpack is just called "PEN15-06" because it's the sixth artpack PEN15 has released so far. I don't have anything to do with the group or its name, besides for having contributed this ASCII to their pack.

i think you should try to graffitti this; it'd be a very challenging project, i think, to spraypaint that onto a wall ala ASCII, as someone had mentioned above. but it'd require a very fine cut-out patterns and hours w/ an x-acto. but even if you don't, it's an awesome piece.

It would be cool, yes. I've never done any sort of real life graffiti though and considering the fact that some people have received prison sentences for stamping stickers on public surfaces here in Helsinki, it's not exactly a hobby that I'm considering to take up. :-P
