This is something I promised for `gas13 a long time ago and I bet he thinks I'd never finish it. But I did. Osmi is his character, which you can see in his avatar and in his gallery. I'm not entirely happy with the result, the shading looks quite icky, but I think it looks like Osmi (I used a picture from his gallery as another reference, which is why the tentacle part is somewhat different from his avatar). The lettering isn't that great either, but I wanted to make my own this time instead of using FIGlet.
If you wonder why the preview picture is using an ugly font and weird colors, it's because I decided to render the picture in the ZX Spectrum font, since ` gas13 is originally a Speccy artist. In real life this picture couldn't be displayed on a real ZX Spectrum computer, because its textmode is limited to 32 x 24 characters, but we can always pretend.
In case font bothers you, click the Download button and you shall see the text file - though I recommend using Fixedsys or Lucida Console instead of Courier, as Osmi isn't as plump as he may appear here. In Windows fonts the shading also looks better. I'm not sure if Speccy has the grave accent character (`), at least my TrueType font didn't have so in the preview picture the accents are replaced with apostrophes, but in the text file they are intact.
I love this, it's great I used to have a ZX spectrum 'back in the day' (2 actually), so have fond memories of it. I remember the loading screen when a game on tape was booting, and it's crazy noises, drived you insane.
The R looks a little bit weird, but appart from that I like the font. Nice looking as a whole, though I consider this sort of ascii art requiring not much skill... Just some outlines with dbqp and fill with 8's... Did you ever try do do something smaller or at least more detailed, by chance?
Yeah, when I started drawing ASCII art in 1997 I did mostly small pictures, a lot of signature-sized art even. Nowadays I draw a lot for competitions and stuff, so I prefer to make solid art in bigger sizes. But I still do the mid-sized detailed stuff (in lineart), such as the Pokémons I draw. I just don't upload them to DeviantART.
Maybe I should compile a collection out of them and upload it one day. Until then you can see it on my page [link] (if you want tiny pictures, check out the tortoise collection. :-P)
Aw, love your pokedex!!! And from reading your page it might be that I saw you in news:alt.ascii-art, can it be? Were around there for some time, too... Reminds me to drop by in VK's chat again! Thanks for the link, and hope you aren't too offended by my classifying of these style to require low skills; from the arts on your size I see that you got and you should know that I was only refering to the style, not to you.
i like how you used the Ms and Ns for the shading (despite your apperant dissatisfaction)
^look at that, no rambling..
